Saanich Council approves Oak Bay police services agreement
CFAX 1070 – January 9, 2012
Saanich Council has unanimously approved their police services agreement with Oak Bay.
Saanich councillor Dean Murdock says this agreement is an example of greater integration of police services in the region.
“and I’m a proponent of integration, we want to try and reduce duplication among the 13 member municipalities as much as possible, and where Saanich as the largest municipality and largest police force in the region is able to provide services to other municipalities, I think it is logical for us to do that”
Murdock says he would like to see Saanich seek opportunities to become the comprehensive service provider for other, smaller communities.
“it makes sense as the largest municipality we have a number of specialized services that really are impractical or unaffordable for smaller communities to provide on their own”
Saanich provides a variety of services for Oak Bay, outside of community policing.
