Cedar Hill Golf Course needs a full public discussion

Saanich Councillor wants more public engagement in solution for Cedar Hill Golf Course

February 6, 2012 CFAX 1070

A motion at Saanich Council Monday night recommending Saanich host public consultation regarding a long term strategy for the Cedar Hill Golf Course was referred to the February 21st council meeting.

Councillor Dean Murdock was disappointed with the decision.

“What we’ve had on the golf course decision, which is a multi-million dollar operation that sees tens of thousands of annual users, is about a week of public engagement. That’s one open house and a budget meeting. To me that’s shoe-horning a quick process in time to make this year’s budget decision.”

He says other issues for the municipality have public engagement time lines in the range of 18 months.

A special council committee budget meeting is scheduled for Tuesday for the public to provide input on a financial plan aimed at fixing the golf course’s financial problems.
